I finished the edit of Artifacts of Awareness! :) It ended up at 107,207 words with 37 chapters. I had a final chapter but when I read it over it was junk, adding nothing to the story I was telling. So that’s gone and good riddance to it.
*sniffles again*
Not too bad considering that I’m definitely sick. Stupid cold!
That said, I’d REALLY like someone to give this one a read-over for me. I’m pretty happy with the form and plot but I don’t know if I managed to convey everything well.
Anyone want to read a 107K Fantasy adventure/slavefic/erotica novel?
There’s slavery, obviously given that the main character is a slave through most of the novel, PTSD with auditory flashbacks (again for the main character), fighting, violence, assassination attempts, het sex, gay sex, threesomes (all three are guys), immortal magical artifacts with personalities, and one hell of a lot of swearing. Kennet, the POV character, has a serious potty mouth.
I’m basically looking for someone to tell me how it worked, any places where they got confused or bored and if it flows well. Proofing for commas, grammar, etc is fine but not mandatory.
So… anyone interested in getting the first read on this one?
Eight chapters done on Artifacts of Awareness! :D
Man, I was writing well on the later part of the novel. It’s kind of fun seeing how good these are, especially since I haven’t gone over this since I wrote it back in July 2012.
Cool beans!
Though I suppose I should actually do some work while I’m at work today. *wry smile*
Just got done updating all the links for buying Fitting In over at my WP store. It’s now available on all the major retailers other than Sony. Why they’re so slow I don’t know but OMG, they’re so slow getting my stuff up!
Tomorrow I’ll update whatever links I can for Hide and Seek. I expect it’ll be a bit before it filters to all the locations. *sighs over that*
Today wasn’t a terribly good writing day in terms of new words. I only got about 1800 words added to Artifacts of Awareness. However, I did go over the two chapters I worked on yesterday and fixed them so it’s better than it seems.
Boy oh boy did they need going over, too! #^^# The run-on rambly sentences were in full force, as were the incomplete thoughts and mangled words. *winces* They’re better now.
Better yet, all the problems I had in the first draft with getting Kennet to show any interest in Prince Didymos have been resolved by rewriting him as absolutely determine never to get involved with someone that sweet and kind ever again. It fits much better with the rest of the novel and frankly it drives up the drama a bit so I’m happy about that. It’s kind of fun making the things I thought up later in the first draft fit into the first part of the book. :D
But now it’s time for bath and bed. I’ve got books to read and a hubby who’s still sick so I’ll just say goodnight everyone!
Dinner has been made - home made pizza FTW! - and consumed. The kitchen is (Mostly) cleaned up. The bed has had the sheets washed and changed and the spare bed is set up so that I don’t have to listen to my hubby snore all night.
*cheers*
Writing went well today despite brain drain from lack of sleep. I got my 2500 words done and finished another chapter / two chapters (it looks like every one of the first draft’s 26 chapters will end up splitting into two chapters in the final draft).
I’m hopeful that when I go back and read it over tomorrow what I wrote today won’t sound like total crap. I was going on the ‘just get the words down, you can edit later’ theory of my not knowing good from bad when too tired. Which is usually right. Usually.
So yes. Bath. Bed. Good night’s sleep. Those are the remaining goals of the day. See everyone tomorrow!
Goodnight!
Where the hell is the text box in Fitting In?
*grumbles as I try to find the darn thing*
Not in the header. Not in the footer. Not in the TOC (completely redone).
Gah! I can’t get it up properly on Smashwords (Premium catalog) until I find the darn thing!
Time to get off the computer for the night.
Sufficient writing has been done to satisfy my goals though I didn’t actually hit 2500 words for today. Finished the story though so it’s all good.
Lector? If you’re around, I’d love to have you edit my two short stories. I did send you a message (two, actually) but I never, ever, ever feel that I can trust Tumblr’s message system. *sighs and glares at Tumblr*
Tomorrow is March so I can work on writing ORACLE Initiative again. I was deliberately working on original fic so that I’d be closer to my goals for original/fanfic for February.
Anyway, off to bath and bed for me. Goodnight everyone!
I finally heard back from my beta! *cheers*
She had feedback for me on Daughter of Chaos that should help strengthen the story enormously. I think it may end up being two books instead of one but that’s fine. I can handle that.
Sadly, the DoC Beta curse struck again. She’s had family members die, get sick with cancer, pnuemonia and the flu since she started working on the story, plus having massively insane hours at work.
That’s five betas struck down by DoC now. o.O; Seriously, this story has a curse on it. Everyone who tries to go over it for me ends up going through hell. She’s the first one to actually finish the beta process and get back to me so hopefully now the curse is broken.
Yes, I’m being paranoid and superstitious but seriously, deaths, serious injuries, major illnesses, jobs lost or suddenly overwhelming, it all keeps happening whenever I have someone look at DoC for me. It’s enough to make me twitchy about even letting someone beta that story for me.
Not that it’s going to stop me from rewriting it, massively expanding the story and then publishing it later this year. I’m just going to be a mess every time I send it to someone to review. *wry smile*
And now it’s back to work yet again.
/sneaky blogging from work
I got a fairly large amount of writing done today. Not as much as I wanted (I wanted to finish the new Muirin short story Hide and Seek but that didn’t happen). I’ll try and get some more writing done tomorrow.
But for now I’m going to head to bath time and bed. Tomorrow’s another day.
Sadly, I haven’t heard back from my beta on Fitting In. *sad face* That means I’m going to need someone else to read it over for grammar, spelling and general WTF moments that don’t make sense.
Anyone interested in reading a matriarchal romantic threesome (MMF) set on Muirin?
I just finished the edits to Chapters 11-20 of Secrets of the Artificer Mages! *cheers*
I have to say I really like my new editor a lot. She has a much lighter hand and she’s much more encouraging than my last one. It’s nice to have someone read my stuff and make constructive suggestions instead of just tearing it apart.
This means I’m nearly halfway done. Chapters 21-44 are left to go. Hopefully I’ll get them soon. I’d love to have this thing published before June. :|
Now it’s time to go get lunch, start a pot of spaghetti sauce and contemplate finishing off the next Muirin short story.
I just finished Draft 3 of Fitting In! *cheers and Kermit flails*
OMG, I’m so relieved, you have no idea. It totaled out to 100,643 words. I had to cut out about 1700 words though so for a while it was up in the 101K range.
I quite literally doubled the size of this story revising it.
Now I just need to contact my beta and see if she’d like to read it over prior to publication. I would like another read-through since I added so much. We’ll see. I may be asking for betas here, though I’m not going to change the flow of the story. It would be a grammar-spelling beta more than anything else.
Anyway, time to go get actual work done since I’ve done basically no work today in my drive to finish this.
*continues cheering and flailing*
Over 6000 words today. I’ve written over 6000 words on Fitting In just today. I’m finally at the last couple of chapters in Ntombi where Cadfael proposes to Ynes (against all tradition in both countries) and gets the right to marry her.
It’s happening totally differently in the revised version than in Draft 2 but that’s okay. I think it’ll work better. However, I do think I’m going to lose about 2000 words of the previous version as I continue editing. Sad but it can’t be helped. They no longer fit with what’s been written.
Now my butt is sort from sitting so long and my back is killing me. It’s time for a nice hot bath and a good night’s sleep. If I can just get through these last three chapters then Fitting In will be done and I can get it ready for publication at last. *dies a little*
Goodnight everyone!
I’m seriously enjoying this praise thing my new editor does. After my last editor’s passive-aggressive sarcastic bullshit it’s really nice to have someone who treats me with respect and gives me praise where I’ve earned it.
And her “…um?” comments when a sentence makes absolutely no sense make me grin.
Time to get ready to go donate blood. After which I will probably be flattened but hey, I got the paid stuff done.
I pointed out previously two places where background information about people is important. This here is what I’m looking for. You name General Dritan, then immediately explain who he is and why he’s important. In keeping with the theme of ‘Give the reader the necessary information,’ this is really good.
Well done.
XD *does happy dance*
I LIKE getting praise from my editor! It makes up for so much shit from the previous one!
*boogies with glee*
Randomly, I’m working on the edits from my new editor for Secrets of the Artificer Mages.
She’s used a fairly light hand and every single point she brought up was very good, very accurate and definitely needed fixing. :)
Better still, she likes the story! *cheers*
Now, the rest of this goes under a cut because it discusses a magical rape that occurs early in the story. That wasn’t in the first draft posted on my LJ/DW but it is in the final draft, FYI.
So TW: Rape for the rest of this.
Nerves about a book being approved for POD apparently is good for my writing.
I got three chapters done on Fitting In today, including one that was almost entirely new.
I’m really happy with the progress so far but I do think that I’ve got a ways to go before I’m where I want to be on the story. I really, really, really hope I can get it done in time for my planned release date at the end of March. January went much faster than expected. :|
It looks like February is going to be equally busy, too. I’ve got a major (4-day) audit at work next week plus a class to teach one day the next week plus another audit that week, plus I should be getting more edits on Secrets of the Artificer Mages this weekend.
It never rains but it pours, I swear.
Anyway, I’m off to make dinner. May get back on tonight or may not. I don’t know.
*waves and scampers off*
