Official Publishing Schedule-YES. GOOD.
XD I shall endeavor to make it a reality then! I do have it on my whiteboard and in an Excel file but they… may not actually match yet. #^_^#
Thanks for the interest sweetie! *big hug*
afewnovelideas replied to your link: Amazon unveils Kindle Worlds publishing platform to help aspiring fan fiction writers sell their work
I definitely understand the skepticism. I want to hope for the best, but nothing should be rushed into blindly. Once Amazon officially opens this up for submissions, I’m going through their “terms and conditions” with a fine-toothed comb.
I’d like to hope for the best but the bit about them keeping all global rights (which I assume means print, ebook, audio, movie, and everything that hasn’t yet been invented, too) for the duration of copyright has me worried.
That’s, I believe, your lifetime plus 35 years. That’s a LONG time, even if they say that its still your story. What good does that do if they have all the rights to it sewn up?
Add that to the verbage about not being compensated if the original license holder likes your character / idea and runs with it? Seriously, all I can think is like Buffy spinning of Angel, or DC incorporating Smallville’s Chloe Sullivan.
If that was your character, your idea, you’d get your 35% on the story (or whatever) but the license holder then can take your character and write a whole new series with them. AND YOU CAN’T SAY A WORD.
They can make millions off of your character, make a spin-off series, movies, merchandise so that you could (potentially) go into stores and see your character staring back at you from T-shirts and books and whatever.
And you wouldn’t get one red cent for any of that. No royalties. No further payments. No say in how the character develops. Nothing.
Maybe I’m a control freak but that makes me sick to the stomach. I wouldn’t want a character I created to be torn out of my hands entirely, especially when I’m getting nothing at all for any further development of the character.
The idea of giving my work away like that, for so long and for so, relatively speaking, little payback freaks me out.
Sure, it would be great for fanfic writers to get reimbursed for their work. That would be awesome! But not at the price of losing everything else.
*sighs*
I just have issues with how this appears to be set up at the moment. Maybe I’m overreacting but I don’t think Amazon would do it if they didn’t think that they could take the lion’s share of the profits. :|
looks great! has that ”taking a peek but not quite seeing” thing, which I think works great for an erotica compilation :D:D Thank you! That was pretty much what I was aiming for (Smashwords’ restrictions keep anything more racy off the cover) so I’m happy. Thanks for giving me feedback! *big hug*

Pfffffffft, oh, right. the money. I totally forgot. PFFFFFTTTTTTT. and I wonder why I can’t do this for a living - I forget to ask for the pay! *shakes head at self* write to you later, ok? *hugs*
*laughs and hugs you and laughs and hugs you* Sounds good, Neme—I’ll be looking forward to your email! XD

*snaps fingers* DAMN. I’ve just GOT to ask though - you think a close up of the bound hands would be good for them? It’s not that sexual, and it’s more interesting than the cuffs for a viewer/potential customer. I can do that, if you need. *hugs*
*ponders* It’s a thought. But… If it was that much of a closeup it would fill most of the cover and then it would be hard to read the text… *cocks head and ponders some more*
*sigh* I think I’ll stick with the cuffs for the Smashwords cover, Neme. Amazon and the paper book both have the proper one. It’s only Smashwords that’s being stupid. *glares at them*
BTW, I still need to know how much to pay you for this! *grins at you*
mgnemesi replied to your photo: Smashwords refused my original cover for Sound of…
Oh, OUCH. D: How does this sound: we erasing the master, and zoom on the kneeling “slave” until his back fills the cover and the focus is the rope? I don’t think they’d disapprove of a naked back… would they? *hands spread*
Yeah. :( *Hugs you* I don’t know if even that would work. They specifically say no nudity, so the slave would have to have at least a shirt on and that kind of negates the purpose of zooming in. I think going with the cuffs and the background will work for now. There’s not a lot of leeway in their rules. Per the person who did the review:
Per the Smashwords TOS, we don’t allow floppy bits, nipples, nudity, butt cracks or graphic sexual content on cover images or inside material.
So…. I think that means that the slave would have to be clothed and the bondage might count as ‘graphic sexual content’. :|
At least I get to use the cuffs on this version of the cover? *tries to find a silver lining in this particular cloud*
Thanks for offering anyway Neme! *more hugs*

Awesome! I’m very excited. My inner linguist really wanted to know exactly what all of those honorifics meant.
XD Here you go! Since, you know, you asked. :D
Prefix - Meaning
ash - female high rank relative
ish - female high rank non-relative
osh - female same rank relative
oosh - female same rank non relative
ush - female low rank relative
uush - female low rank non relative
vla - male high rank relative
vli - male high rank non relative
vlo - male same rank relative
vloo - male same rank non relative
vlu - male low rank relative
vluu - male low rank non relative
Suffix - Meaning
bli - adored, beloved, practically perfect
bra - strong approval
slo - fond of, worth cultivating them
vsa - mild disapproval, shrug-worthy
vyu - some disapproval, not worth the effort
zi - absolute disapproval, horrible person
wu - neutral, no opinion either way
To designate whether they’re in-group or out-group:
m - add to end of suffix for in-group
q - add to end of suffix for out-group
Example:
Vli’Aravel’ziq = male high rank non relative named Aravel who is a horrible person that I hate
Vlu’Umar’slom = low rank male relative named Umar who I’m fond of and who is part of my family
Oh… so cool. I was able to pick up what some of these meant from usage and how they were described in the story, but I missed out on a lot of possible variations. Thank you so much for sharing!
*nods* I couldn’t use all of them in the story (there weren’t that many characters with that many variations of position / approval) so I’m not surprised you missed some. Can you tell that I had fun working this all out? *laughs*
I’m looking forward to doing the same sort of thing for the Chinwenduese and Yewandian languages for future stories. *is a world building nerd*
Glad that you liked this! :D

storiesintheashes replied to your post: Well, that was interesting.
I’m glad it went well with your mom! Oh, btw, I meant to mention this before, but for Fitting In it would have been really helpful to have an appendix dictionary/translation of the honorifics used? Maybe as a copy of one of the Dana Clan’s journals?
Oh, good idea! I’ll probably add the honorifics into Fitting In and then do the jounals for later books… *ponders* Either way, very good idea! Thank you for suggesting it! :D
storiesintheashes replied to your post: :D Got another chapter done!
One thing to watch out for (not that I have any real experience with trans* issues) is watch out for Anwyn steam rolling her uncle over this? Or if she does go ahead and try that, there should be consequences in which she learns why this isn’t ok.
storiesintheashes replied to your post: :D Got another chapter done!
I mean, it’s a delicate topic, but you can go interesting places with it. Your stories have a lot of lovely social commentary in them. I’d just recommend talking to a bunch of trans* people and ask them to read it once you’re done or as you go…
*nods* I’ve already got Aunt Kennis (the non-trans* one) in my head reining Anwyn in. It is a delicate topic, no doubt about it, and even bull-in-the-china-shop Anwyn realizes that. I will have to address it eventually because I have stories based in Chinwendu I want to tell someday and they’ve got MTF, FTM and Neutral gendered pronouns and social structures embedded in their culture.
And yes, I will definitely ask some trans* friends of mine to read it over before I go with it.
Thanks for the advice! (and the compliment, too! :D)
batchix replied to your post: Man, I hope I don’t offend anyone with this one.
Why not consult some of your friends who are female to male about how it would make them feel?
I think once I’m done writing I will. Right now the story’s so fluid (and incomplete) that there’s not much point in it. But after its done I do think I’ll do some asking around. Thanks sweetie!
storiesintheashes replied to your post: Question for you guys
Kind of up to you. It might be a good idea for continuity to keep the whole thing up until you finish posting it. And then just leave the first chapter or two up as a teaser for people considering a purchase.
*nods* I’m thinking at this point that I’ll leave the story up the whole time, and then once it’s done probably just the first five chapters or so as enticement / teaser. By the time I’m done posting it I should have another novel to put up, too. XD
storiesintheashes replied to your post: Yay!
Yay! More Anwyn! I I’m very excited to read more of her story.
XD I’m really enjoying getting back to Anwyn. She’s so much fun to write, not that I dislike writing any of my characters. Hopefully sometime this year I’ll have the first novel of Daughter of Chaos up as that’s all Anwyn. :D
Thanks for the support, sweetie!
babybirdblues replied to your post: *Sigh*
DC might be a little stoned, but they haven’t hit rock bottom with all their characters yet. (are you prepared for all the horrible jokes? *snorts and giggles to self*)
*groans* God, no, I’m definitely not ready for all the horrible jokes! But yeah, what else are you going to do with such terrible writing? *sighs and shakes head*
